Woj bombs are filling the twittersphere and hot takes are coming from every direction. It's that time of year again folks…. IT IS FREE AGENCY!
Here at The Fuzz we've asked a few of our writers to give you their HOTTEST of hot takes for the free agency period! Is Lebron James on the move? Is Jimmy Butler destined for LA? Has Phil Jackson completely lost his mind?
Here are our hot takes for the NBA Free Agency!
1. CARMELO ANTHONY TO THE ROCKETS
Phil Jackson is serving up fried hors d’œuvre's with a side of Carmelo Anthony this summer. Daryl Morey will be hovering outside the kitchen door waiting for those tasty Melo treys.
The writing is on the wall for Carmelo Anthony and the Knickerbockers. Jackson basically spelt it out for everyone back in April when he said in a press conference that Carmelo "would be better off somewhere else"
Nice one Phil.. The asking price for your franchise guy is now worth one chiko roll and $2 worth of chips.
Pack your things Melo you're heading to Houston. Phil is flipping you for Sam Dekker and Ryan Anderson. I'm sure you'll feel right at home in that Mike D'Antoni 'shoot til you drop' system. Be free Melo, no more triangles. Go and shoot some three pointers with James, Eric and Lou.
Rockets 2017-18 Starting Lineup
2. JJ REDDICK TO THE LAKERS
Magic and Pelinka aren't fucking around. They are about to build the mother-ship of all super teams this off-season. There isn't a star free agent on the market that hasn't been attached to Lakers rumours. Not to mention those names such as Paul George or Lebron James who both find themselves on expiring contracts with itchy feet.
The news broke earlier today via Adrian Wojnarowski that Lakers were sending D'Angelo Russell and Timofey Mozgov to Brooklyn in exchange for Brook Lopez and the 27th pick. A move to clear cap space and make way for what is brewing.
D'Angelo is gone and Clarkson won't be far behind. Lakers are pulling the rug out from under Mitch Kupchak's leftovers. All 5 positions of that starting lineup are up for grabs. As to what combination of stars they'll assemble will be evident soon enough but all I know is JJ Reddick will be the Lakers starting 2-guard in 2017-18.
No more Chris Paul and first round exits... Enjoy purple and gold JJ.
3. KRISTAPS PORZINGIS TO THE CELTICS
Phil Jackson is losing his mind and Danny Ainge is about to reap all the benefits.
If you would have told me 6 months ago that Phil Jackson would even consider trading away his precious unicorn and the future of Knicks basketball, I would have laughed in your face, and not because I didn't believe you but because that is exactly the kind of fucked up thing Phil Jackson would do.
Knicks will likely try and package Kristaps Porzingis along with Joakim Noah and his god awful contract. I'd expect Boston to return a couple of their prized first round picks, Jae Crowder and Terry Rozier.
Welcome to Bean town KP.
1. DANNY AINGE IS NOT DONE… Making people from Boston want to throw him through a cement grinder.
Ainge will make at least one more move that will absolutely infuriate the most loyal Celtics fans. It might be drafting Dennis Smith with #3? it might actually be trading down out of the top 10 all together? It will almost certainly be something I can't even think of because I don't live in the same universe as Danny. Giving Philly Markelle Fultz was step 1 of at least 2 steps that make zero sense.
2. DAN GILBERT HATES LEBRON
He knows he's leaving Cleveland at the end of next season so he will spend the entire off season firing anyone who's there to help and trading away anything of value for the (second) post Lebron era. He no longer believes LeBron has what it takes to beat this GSW juggernaut and he feels he's already spent enough money, he's fucking over it. Nothing would make Gilbert happier than calling Lebron's bluff and watching him waste away a season, as opposed to mortgaging the teams future for one year of Paul George or Carmelo Anthony.
3. BLAKE GRIFFEN… Welcome to SOUTH BEACH!
Miami with Blake is too good. He could average 25/10/6 every night and then go do all the drugs and stand up comedy his fragile yet beastly frame can handle. With all that shooting around the Perimeter and Whiteside in the middle, Blake gives the heat a play maker and scorer in the post and on the break. IMO he makes them a top 10 team in the league… and with a bit of luck in the playoffs you never know.. We might get Heat Vs Lebron AND DWAYNE WADE at Cavs in the Eastern conference finals!
1. BUTLER, GEORGE AND MELO ALL HAVE NEW HOMES BY THE END OF FREE AGENCY
Jimmy Butler finds his way to the Cavalier's. I think this is the kind of guy that LeBron wants to see in Cleveland. High engine, athletic, and an alpha dog. I don't think this is a good move for either party (spacing, Butler's 3 pt %), but I think it's the likely landing spot for Jimmy Buckets. It will require a 3rd team to get it done, but it's happening.
Paul George ends up a Laker, and quick. I can see this happening as quickly as the Philly/Boston pick swap. Both parties want it to happen, and I think the Pacers will recognise it's the best play. Even though the Lakers don't really want to trade Russell, I could see him being the centrepiece in this trade IF the Pacers take the Deng contract too. The only untouchable Lakers will be Lonzo and Randle.
"Melo, it's not you we're looking for...". Phil Jackson is done with Melo, and vice versa. It as "fun" while it lasted, but the highlight of his stint there was Lin-Sanity. Yup. That's a real thing.
Now.... it's not the Banana Boat, but why can't Melo join PG13 in Laker Land? I don't think the Lakers would have to give up a whole lot to get him there, and I think this shows George that they're willing to be movers and shakers. Let's not forget that PG is a Free Agent next year. A year in hell wirh a bunch of young pieces doesn't sound like a fun start. Melo takes the scoring pressure off him, and gives Ball two solid options to pass the ball to. Ingram, a pick and the Mozgov contract. Why not?
2. HAYWARD IS THE LYNCH PIN
For a few days, Gordon Hayward will be the most important man in the NBA. He'll take his visits, keep the league on a razors edge, and then go Green.
This will set off so many dominoes it'll cause your Twitter feed to both explode and completely freeze up at the same time. You'll miss more deals than you can keep up with, and it will take a few days, but lead to :
3. PORZINGOD THE CELTICS!!!!!
That's my take and I'm sticking to it! The Celtics have been stockpiling picks and good contracts and 10 guards for this very reason. When you find your window, you ram yourself in to it and make it happen. The #3 pick, next year's Brooklyn pick and Jae Crowder oughta do it. This still doesn't empty Ainge's war chest, creates a few years of cost control along with a superstar, and gives the following line-up to start the season :
See you in the finals Boston.
