If the '17 Warriors win the chip it has nothing to do with the Legacy of the 73-9 '16 team and even less to do with the championship team of '15… Which is the saddest part. Everything this team achieves from this point on will contain the following disclaimer ** Yea that was after they signed Kevin Durant **
The culling of over half the roster and the signing of Kevin Durant has effectively ended the fun, organic & spirited Golden State Warriors team that we knew. Steph doesn't get another shot at LeBron James & the Cavs because ** Yea that was after they signed Kevin Durant **
The '15 Warriors won the chip because every team they faced in the playoffs was injured, and when they finally came up against a star point guard in Kyrie Irving and a fully strength squad they fell short, in a crushing defeat. There is no redemption at this because even if they make it back to the finals this year & beat the Cleveland Cavaliers it was like ** Yea that was after they signed Kevin Durant **
Steph and KD have practically given up any hope of being named MVP, because there is this weird unspoken undertone with the award and everyone just knows both those guys are out of the running even if they have an amazing year. Its also unlikely that the warriors will have 4 All Stars, I think the biggest loser here will be Draymond Green. Kevin Durant could end up with a lot of Greens usage in the Warriors system, and Green could end up with the Harrison Barnes treatment.
The Warriors wasn't just the 'Splash Brothers' - it was Bogut protecting the rim & setting slightly illegal screens for Steph & Klay. It was Harrison Barnes killing you with a dagger after the defence had been extended beyond repair to cover the other threats. It was Mo Buckets coming off the bench and burying 3's and mid range shots getting the crowd going crazy to start a run. It was Barbosa in the Finals. It was Festus Ezeli developing into a quality big getting the timely rebound or huge block. It was organic, real & amazing. And it sucks that this team has been blown up.
The crazy thing about blowing up the warriors is that they were unbelievably good - great - historic even. A combined 140 regular season wins over the last two seasons. Led the league in almost all statistical categories, I mean they really were 'light years' ahead. They only lost one playoff series and that was to a team that was so desperate to deliver a championship to its city. It took a legacy defining performance by LeBron James who put together one of the greatest stretches of games we've ever seen just to beat this Warriors team... With a bit (a lot) of help from Irving.
As a fan of Basketball I feel robbed, I can only imagine how Steph Curry must feel. He & Durant are friends and I mean what's he supposed to say? When Draymond Green is recruiting Durant all season, knowing that this means fucking off Barnes & Bogut along with half the bench. As well as putting the unanimous MVP down a rung on the teams 'most transcendent player' depth chart. People will say Green cost them the championship for getting suspended (crazy people actually blame the NBA for this and not the dick kicks/slaps/knees/punches), but what if he cost them the chip by openly recruiting KD in front of his team mates, all of which had so much to lose if he could pull it off!?
I guess the past is in the past now and we'll never know how truly great this team was or could've been. There are so many doubters, so many 'what ifs', all these questions and now there is no chance for the Warriors to answer any of them, because anything that happens from this point on… ** Yea that was after they signed Kevin Durant **
