It is the free agency decision that would undoubtedly shake up the league. This is the first time Kevin Durant will hit free agency in his MVP caliber prime and will have 30 teams all wanting a piece of that ass.. The only thing is, they can’t have it... Well not for next season anyway, KD is re-signing with Oklahoma City. You can lock it in. This might as well have been written in stone the minute OKC finished off the San Antonio Spurs in Game 6 and advanced to the Western Conference Finals. If OKC lost that series to Spurs (as they were expected too) it would have the end of an era for KD and OKC, but that wasn’t the case. The Thunder stunned the league and became only the 3rd team in NBA history to defeat a team in the playoffs with a regular season record of 67 wins or greater. They made it plain and simple, they have what it takes to beat any team in this league... Not to mentioned they have the opportunity tomorrow night to defeat the ‘greatest' team in NBA history and advance to the finals once again for another shot at redemption against Lebron James (Or they could add to the greatest choke statistics of all time, blowing a 3-1 advantage over GSW), BUT regardless of what may happen, OKC are back in a BIG BAD WAY!
Russell Westbrook will enter the 2016/17 season with one year left on his contract, it would make perfect sense for KD to resign a healthy one year extension with the franchise and give it all next season in one final effort to bring that chip to the City of Oklahoma alongside a prime Westbrook before they explore free agency in 2017.
