So if I was to tell you that we are already one quarter of the way through the 2016-17 NBA season would you believe me!? It's hard to fathom... where the fuck did November go!? We are now twenty-something games into the regular season, and it is now December! It has never seemed like a better time to start talking NBA All-Star rosters!
The continuity of the All-Star voting year-in and year-out makes it somewhat easy to predict who gets the votes, which makes this exercise less of a 'stab in the dark' and more of a controlled speculation based on the law of common sense.. Having said that the 2017 All-Star Game will be rid of a few of the old favourites and welcome a host of first timers to the All-Star stage!
As much as Individual performances and statistics are the key factors behind most selections.. Sometimes you get those international fans that try to throw a fucking curve ball into the mix aka Zaza Pachulia and Jonas Valancuinis! Some of the following predictions were decided by how we think the fans will vote and some are decided by who we think the coaches will reward with votes..
Without further ado here are our 2016-17 All-Stars predictions!
East All Star Predictions
G Kyrie Irving
Uncle Drew has inevitably reached his status as number one point guard in the Eastern Conference.
His post season performance earlier in the year, mixed with the fact he has been able to stay healthy has help his bid to garner this spot as the East All-Star starting PG.
Kyrie gets buckets..
G Dwyane Wade
So before the haters hate, we actually do feel there are currently more deserving guards for this spot, however the fans are the ones who vote in the starting lineup for the All-Star Game. Due to the fact that D-Wade is a total LORD, he will most likely get an abundance of votes from his Miami Heat faithfuls, as well as votes from his new found Chicago fans. He received the second highest amount of votes (East) for the Toronto All-Star Game last year (941,466), and we are more than confident he'll be back in the starting lineup in New Orleans.
F Paul George
If you look at the Top 10 players we have in the NBA, there are eight from the West and two from the East... Paul George is one of those two. It didn't take him long to climb his way back to his superstar status after suffering the horrific leg injury in 2014. Paul George is averaging a healthy 21 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals for the season and should be a lock for a starting spot on the roster.
F Lebron James
Any surprises here? This will be King James 13th All-Star Game appearance, tying Dirk Nowitzki for the most All Star Games among active players. Lebron isn't showing signs of slowing down either.
He has basically coasted his way to 24 points, 8.4 rebounds and 9.7 assist so far this season, which are some of the most impressive all round numbers of his career!
F/C Kristaps Porzingis
The New York Knicks Sophomore has made it clear this season that he is one of the most exciting rising stars in the NBA. Kristaps began his career as the underdog and quickly proved the doubters wrong! The fans love him... Everyone loves him. We look forward to Porzingod gracing the All-Star stage in the New Orleans.
G Kemba Walker
G Demar Derozan
G Giannis Antetokounmpo
G Isiah Thomas
G/F Jimmy Bulter
F Paul Millsap
F/C Carmelo Anthony
F/C Hassan Whiteside
West All Star Predictions
G Russell Westbrook
Russ is having a season unlike anything we have seen before. The 6'3 guard from Oklahoma City is averaging 30.9 points, 10.3 rebounds and 11.3 assists. We haven't seen numbers like this since Oscar Robertson back in the 1960's!! It wouldn't surprise us if Westbrook receives the highest amount of votes in NBA All-Star voting history. He is the peoples man, he is loyal to his team, and it's basically impossible not to like the guy.
G Stephen Curry
The 2 x MVP is well and truly back to his cookin form, after having a relatively slow start to the season. Steph is once again hitting shots from every square inch of the basketball court and looking as lethal as he ever has. Alongside his new teammate Kevin Durant, Steph and the Golden State Warriors look scarier than Susan Boyle's dirty washing.
F Kawhi Leonard
The humble San Antonio superstar has taken his game to new heights this season averaging 24.6 points, 6 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.5 steals. Leonard is also the only active player in the league to have more steals than fouls throughout his career... That is completely fucking insane.
Kawhi has emerged as a Top 10 player in the league, the best defender in the NBA and the next generation leader of San Antonio Spurs.
F Kevin Durant
Whether you love him or hate him, there is no denying the guy.... Kevin Durant is arguably the best basketball player on planet earth (after a guy named James). It is still early days but the Durantula is already making his case for the 2016-17 MVP award. We all knew that the addition of Kevin Durant to an already historically good basketball team was going to be devastating for the rest of the league, but no one knew what it would actually look like.... Except now we do, and it looks like every team is pretty fucked.
F/C Anthony Davis
So for some reason after averaging 25 points, 10.3 rebounds and 3blks for the 2015-16 season everyone lost their hype over The Brow and began looking to Karl Anthony Towns as the next generation superstar..... Well it turns out that Anthony Davis doesn't care much for your speculations and preseason rubbish! He is proving to be the most dominant versatile big man this game has ever seen... We simply don't know how high this guys ceiling actually is. If Davis can somehow carry the Pelicans to the playoffs this season after their woeful start, you best believe that he will be a hot favourite in that MVP conversation.
